Cannot Search from SharePoint Online to SharePoint On-premise

Hi,

We just recently created the site with search center in SharePoint Online, the aim for creating the site is to search from SharePoint Online to SharePoint On-premise.

All users can search, but it displays all the results from all the sites on the web applications on SP on-prem.

I created a query rule to display result on the specific sites. By the way the Web Application consist of 6 site collection.

I tried to put a query rules, It is working fine on my account and other service account that i used. But for other users it does not display any results.

But when I remove the query rules, the search will work again but it display all documents from all 6 site collection.

I tried on 1 user to level on my permission but still no success, it still not display any results.

Can somebody help me on this.. this is so frustrating i don't know what to check now..

Hi Trevor,

Below is the sample query rule that we apply. The rule is working when using my account, but for other all users in our company they there is no search results when they trying to search.

{searchTerms} path: https://abc/sites/xyz/*

Do the end users have at least read access to https://abc/sites/xyz/*? I'm assuming you set up a Cloud Search Service Application on-prem (Hybrid Search)?

Hi Trevor,

Yes, all users has read access on the SP Online and SP On-premise. I setup it as Hybrid Federated Search.

I tried on 1 user to level up his access and make the Site Admin but still there is no result when searching.

Hi Trevor,

Just wandering, It is safe to run this command twice? I know that I ran this command when I setup the Hybrid Federated Search.

$config = Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig
$config.AuthenticationPipelineClaimMappingRules

$config = Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig
$config.AuthenticationPipelineClaimMappingRules.AddIdentityProviderNameMappingRule("OrgId Rule", [Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPIdentityProviderTypes]::Forms, "membership", "urn:federation:microsoftonline")
$config.Update()

If the rule exists, it should fail. But just to verify, your web app is using Windows auth (NTLM or Kerberos), correct?

Yes, this issue has been solved by running the command below.

$serviceConfig = Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig
$serviceConfig.AllowOAuthOverHttp = $false
$serviceConfig.Update()

I run the command below to fix the search issue.

$serviceConfig = Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig
$serviceConfig.AllowOAuthOverHttp = $false
$serviceConfig.Update()
