Camera isn't working for Mac software

Hi all,

My camera recently stopped working for the Microsoft teams app. I think it is because the new update for Microsoft is not compatible with my Mac software. Does anyone know a way I can get my camera to work? I do not want to have to buy a new laptop!

Thanks!

    Good day Rachel

Just to gently clarify before we go any further, this is a user‑to‑user support forum. I don’t have the ability to access or investigate individual accounts because this is a user-to-user support forum.

I recommend trying the steps provided in the AI response first. Then, you can also follow the detailed guidance in the following article: My camera isn't working in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Support

As a quick check, please try using Teams on the web to see if your camera works there. If it does, you can use the web version as a temporary workaround for any urgent meetings.

Additionally, you may also want to review the Teams system requirements for macOS to confirm that your current macOS version is supported and meets the requirements for stable performance.

Please let me know the results. If you have any questions or need further support, please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.

Try these Mac-specific steps for Teams first:

    1. Close other apps that may be using the camera, such as Skype or FaceTime.
    2. If using an external camera, unplug it and plug it back in.
    3. Restart the Mac.
    4. Check macOS camera permission for Teams:
      • Open System Settings.
      • Select Security & Privacy.
      • Under Privacy, select Camera.
      • Make sure Microsoft Teams (work or school) is selected.
      • Close all apps and restart the device.
      • These settings apply to macOS 10.14 and higher.
    5. Make sure macOS and the Teams app are fully updated.
    6. In Teams, make a test call to verify whether the camera is detected:
      • Select Settings and more in Teams.
      • Select Settings > Devices.
      • Under Audio Settings, select Make a test call.
      • The test call shows whether the mic, speaker, and camera are working.

If the camera still does not work after permissions, restart, and updates, contact the device manufacturer in case it is a hardware issue.

The provided guidance does not confirm that the latest Teams update is incompatible with the Mac version. The supported next step is to check permissions, restart, and update macOS and Teams.
