Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Emails that were not delivered while Microsoft cloud storage was full cannot be reinstated in Outlook.com. Messages sent during the period when storage was full are bounced back to the sender and are unrecoverable.
What can be done:
- Check mailbox storage to confirm the mailbox is no longer full.
- Check Deleted Items and Junk Email in case any messages are present there.
- In Deleted Items, select Recover items deleted from this folder and restore any available messages.
- Contact the original senders and ask them to resend the missing emails.
- If the mailbox can still be signed in to and more help is needed, in Outlook.com select Help from the top menu, search for the issue, and if needed scroll to Still need help? and select Yes.
Important limits called out by Microsoft:
- If Microsoft cloud storage is full, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email.
- Messages sent during that time are bounced back to the sender and are unrecoverable.
- Email is automatically deleted from Deleted Items after 30 days.
- Items removed from Deleted Items are recoverable for 30 days.
- Junk email is retained for 30 days before automatic deletion.
