Microsoft Authenticator App - Facebook

Question

I changed phones and my Facebook account did not transfer to Microsoft Authenticator. Facebook is requiring the 6 digit authentication code, but the Facebook account is no longer showing in Authenticator.

For a Facebook account in Microsoft Authenticator, the entry can be added again by setting up Facebook two-factor authentication with Authenticator on the new phone.

1. On a computer, open Facebook.
2. Go to Settings > Security and Login.
3. In Two-Factor Authentication, find Use two-factor authentication and select Edit.
4. Select Turn On if needed.
5. In the Add a backup section, choose Setup in the Authentication app area. Facebook shows a QR code.
6. On the new phone, open Microsoft Authenticator.
7. Select Add account from the Customize and control icon, then select Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.).
8. Scan the QR code from Facebook.
   • If the camera does not work, the code and URL can be entered manually.
9. Confirm the Facebook account appears in Authenticator and that a 6-digit verification code is shown.
10. Back on Facebook, select Next, then enter the verification code from Authenticator to finish setup.

If the account had previously been backed up and restored, third-party accounts such as Facebook typically restore the one-time password entry. If it did not restore, the supported path is to set up the Facebook account again from Facebook’s two-factor authentication page.

Also make sure Microsoft Authenticator is updated to the latest version before adding the account.
