I wanted to change my phone number as I no longer have the phone. I thought I was doing the correct process but it now says I am completely changing my security log in to a different email. How do I cancel this ? Every time I try to change something it wants to send me a code to a number I no longer have.

    Hi,

For improved account protection, phone numbers can no longer be added as a new sign-in verification method. Instead, Microsoft now recommends using a recovery email address, the Microsoft Authenticator app, or a passkey/security key as your primary methods for account security and recovery.

    1. Do you currently see a message saying “Your security info change is still pending” or that your security information will be changed after 30 days?
    2. When you try to cancel the security change, does Microsoft give you an option such as “Cancel this request,” or does it only offer to send a verification code to your old phone number?
    3. Do you still have access to any other security method on the account, such as a recovery email, Microsoft Authenticator, or another verification option?

I attempted to cancel and I attempted to "let us know" but when I did, it wanted to send me a code to my old phone number....which I don't have

If the security change request was started from the Microsoft account, it can be canceled from the Security info change is still pending window.

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft account Security page: Security
    2. In the Your security info change is still pending window, select cancel this request.
    3. Follow the prompts.

    Important details:

    • The 30-day process cannot be expedited unless the request is canceled.
    • Canceling the request requires access to the existing security proofs.
    • If the security info was not removed intentionally, use let us know in that same pending window.
    • If all security info was replaced, the account can be in a restricted state for 30 days.
    • If access to all security info was lost, at sign-in select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to replace the security info. After replacement, sign-in is blocked for 30 days.
    • If current security info becomes available during that 30-day period, using it to sign in cancels the update to the security info.

Caution: do not change all security info at the same time, or the account may be restricted for 30 days.
