This is usually an authentication loop: the account asks for a code from Microsoft Authenticator or email, but access to that method is not available yet.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. On the sign-in screen, look for Use a different way to sign in, Show more verification options, or I don't have any of these.
      • If another method is already attached to the account, use that instead of the app.
    2. If the verification code is being sent to an alternate Microsoft email account, use two private/InPrivate browser windows:
      • In the first private window, sign in to the account that is asking for the code.
      • When prompted for the code, leave that window open.
      • Open a second private/InPrivate window.
      • Sign in to the alternate email account there and get the code.
      • Return to the first window and enter the code.
    3. If access to the old phone number or email is lost, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace the security info.
      • If all security info is replaced, sign-in access is delayed for 30 days.
      • If current security info becomes available during that time, using it will cancel the update.
    4. If the code is not arriving:
      • Check Junk/Spam.
      • Avoid repeated code requests, because excessive requests can cause a temporary block.
      • If the phone blocks texts from unknown numbers, change that setting and request another code.
      • If the account was flagged for unusual activity, codes may not be delivered until the issue is resolved.
    5. If blocked with Try another verification method:
      • Try a different verification method already connected to the account.
      • Try a different network, such as switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
      • Wait at least 24 hours before trying again, and if needed wait longer, up to 1 week. Repeated attempts can extend the block.
    6. If none of the above works:
      • Use the Microsoft Sign-in helper.
      • If password is also unavailable and no security methods can be accessed, submit the account recovery form.
      • Microsoft support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details for security reasons.

Important: Do not change all security info at the same time unless necessary, because the account may be restricted for 30 days.
