SharePoint will not prompt access denied

I want users (everyone w/ contribute already for the full site) to be able to see a link on a SharePoint page but when they click on it and do not have permissions to access it, be prompted with Access Denied and ability to request access. How do I do this?

    I want to confirm more information with you:

    What does the link point to?

    Does the link point to content on the same site?

    Make sure users have at least read permission to the content that the link points to.

    If the user does have the correct permissions, please remove and re-grant it to compare the results.
