windows activation error

Question

i upgraded my motherboard. i did a fresh reinstall of windows, entered my product key and logged in to my microsoft account. Now my windows is not activated and when i try to troubleshoot by clicking on changed my hardware it wont show a list of devices. i can see my product key is store at the bottom. Please help me resolve my issue. Thanks in advance.

A motherboard change is treated as a significant hardware change, so Windows may no longer find the license that matched the old device.

Try these steps:

1. Verify activation status and edition:
   • In Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
   • Confirm the installed edition matches the license, such as Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro. If the edition does not match the license, Windows will not activate.
2. Run the Activation troubleshooter:
   • Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
   • The troubleshooter is available only when Windows is not activated.
   • An internet connection is required, and administrator access is required.
3. If the troubleshooter does not show any devices:
   • The reactivation path after hardware change requires that the Microsoft account was associated with the digital license before the hardware change.
   • If that association was not in place, the device list may be empty.
4. Enter the product key again:
   • Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation > Change product key.
   • Enter the 25-character product key and complete the prompts.
   • If Windows was freshly reinstalled, entering the product key here is the supported path.
5. If the motherboard was replaced by the original PC manufacturer:
   • The device should reactivate automatically.
   • If it does not, check whether the manufacturer provided a COA card with a 25-character key, then use Change product key to enter that key.
6. If activation still fails after the motherboard replacement:
   • If Windows was preinstalled on the PC and the motherboard was replaced, a new license may be required.
   • If there is an activation error such as 0x803F7001, Windows could not find a valid license for the current hardware.
