    Hi,

If this is a Microsoft 365 work or school account, please try the following first:

    1. On the verification screen, check whether you have an option such as “Sign in another way” or “Other ways to sign in.” If another authentication method was previously registered, try using that method instead.
    2. If you are expecting a code by SMS or phone call:
      • Make sure the registered phone number is still active and can receive SMS/calls.
      • Check whether your phone is blocking unknown or automated messages/calls.
      • If you have requested the code several times, avoid making repeated requests for a while, as repeated attempts or unusual sign-in activity can temporarily affect code delivery.
    3. If the code is being sent by email, check the Junk/Spam folder as well. Microsoft verification messages may come from an @accountprotection.microsoft.com address.
    4. If you are still able to access your account using another authentication method, review the security methods registered to your work or school account from the Security info page: Security info

If none of your registered authentication methods are accessible, please contact your organization's IT administrator or help desk. They can review your authentication methods and, if necessary, reset/clear the MFA registration so that you can register your authentication methods again.

For reference, Microsoft provides additional troubleshooting here:

If the issue continues, please reply with the following information so I can narrow it down further:

    • Is this a work/school Microsoft 365 account or a personal Microsoft account such as Outlook.com/Hotmail.com?
    • How are you supposed to receive the code: SMS, phone call, email, or Microsoft Authenticator?
    • Do you see any other verification method available when signing in?
    • Is there any error message displayed after you request the code? If possible, please share a screenshot after removing any personal or sensitive information.

If this is a personal Microsoft account rather than a work/school account, please let me know, as the recovery and verification steps are different.

Try these checks and recovery options:

    1. Check the delivery location.
      • For email codes, check Inbox and Junk/Spam.
      • Valid Microsoft verification emails come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
      • Mark @accountprotection.microsoft.com as a trusted sender.
    2. Avoid repeated code requests.
      • Too many requests can temporarily block code delivery.
      • Unusual activity or heavy compromised traffic from a region can also delay or block codes for a period of time.
    3. Verify the sign-in method details.
      • Email codes can only be sent to the primary alias or another email already added as a verification method.
      • For phone codes, make sure the number is correct.
      • VOIP numbers cannot be used to receive verification codes; use a mobile number instead.
      • If the phone blocks texts from unknown numbers, change that setting and select I don't have a code to request another one.
      • If the phone inbox is full or the messaging app is malfunctioning, clear storage or troubleshoot the messaging app.
    4. Check security info.
      • Go to the Security basics page and select Update info to confirm the phone number or email address is correct.
      • If the listed methods are not accessible, select I don't have any of these to replace the security info.
    5. If the code is being sent to another Microsoft email account.
      • If the alternate email ends with @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com, use two private browsing windows:
        1. In the first private window, sign in to the account requesting the code.
        2. Keep that window open when prompted for the code.
        3. Open a second private window.
        4. Sign in to the alternate email account there and get the code.
        5. Return to the first window and enter the code.
    6. If access to security info is lost.
      • If the password is known but only some security methods are lost, sign in to Advanced security options, add a new way to sign in or verify, confirm it with a code, then remove the old method.
      • Do not change all security info at the same time, or the account may be restricted for 30 days.
      • If all security info is lost, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
    7. If support is needed.
      • Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details.
      • If sign-in still fails, use the sign-in helper or Contact Microsoft Support.
