If you are looking to upgrade from a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription to Microsoft 365 Family, you will need to purchase the Microsoft 365 Family subscription using the same Microsoft account that you currently use for your Personal subscription.

The remaining days on your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription will be converted and added to your Microsoft 365 Family subscription at the applicable conversion rate.

To switch from Microsoft 365 Personal to Microsoft 365 Family, the path depends on how the subscription was purchased.

If the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft:

1. Buy the Microsoft 365 Family subscription wanted.
2. Use the same Microsoft account as the current Personal subscription.
3. Start using the Family benefits immediately.
4. The remaining days on the Personal subscription are automatically converted and added to the new Family subscription.

For a Personal → Family upgrade, the remaining time is converted at 92%.

If the subscription was purchased through a third-party billing partner such as the Apple App Store:

• Subscription changes are managed by that billing partner.
• Go to account.microsoft.com/services, select Manage for the subscription, and follow the billing partner’s management path.
• Third-party partners may or may not allow switching plans.

If the subscription was purchased from the app on Apple devices, management is done in: Settings > [name] > iTunes & App Store / iTunes & App Stores > Subscriptions.

Also, switching from Personal to Family does not change the storage size per user. Family increases the number of people who can use the subscription, up to six people total.
