Microsoft Verification Phishing

Hi ,

For some time now, I’ve been pestered by requests to verify my personal account details via another work account and use an emailed one time PIN code to do so. This only happens on my Apple devices. My Microsoft laptop is fine.

So, when I received the attached from a legitimate Microsoft account, I didn’t give it much thought until the code sent was rejected three times, which made me suspicious . I’ve checked security on my devices and changed my passwords for both accounts. I noticed that the style of writing was different and there was a link on the spoof, which I didn’t click on.

I’ve reported to ******@phishing.gov.uk and pressed report, but couldn’t find anything on your websites or forums to give me confidence that my account is secure against what is quite a clever scam. I’m also still being pestered with requests to verify my Microsoft accounts on my Apple devices, by this means and the putting images in the right direction means. As well as being annoying, I’m unsure that I’ll be able to identify scams and legitimate requests despite my cyber-security training. Could you help please?

Thanks,

Liz

You’re likely dealing with a phishing attempt, especially since the verification prompts only appear on your Apple devices and the one‑time PIN was rejected multiple times. The unusual writing style and the suspicious link you avoided reinforce that it wasn’t a legitimate Microsoft request. Since your Microsoft laptop behaves normally, the issue is probably device‑specific, not an account breach. You’ve already taken the right steps by changing passwords and reporting the message. To stop the repeated prompts, sign out of Microsoft apps on your Apple devices, clear saved credentials, and sign back in. If the issue continues, Microsoft Support can confirm your account is secure and help reset any stuck verification loops.
