Question

Hi,

I have an HP Intel Pentium Gold laptop. Does it support the CODi docking station? I am trying to extend my display to 3 monitors. My laptop, and 2 other monitors.

What am I doing wrong? There is a port for the USBC and I did connect it.

What model of CODi Docking station do you use?

Search for msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot, and post it here so we can see the correct laptop model or desktop configuration.

A USB-C dock will only extend displays if the laptop’s USB-C port supports video output, typically DisplayPort Alternate Mode. A USB-C port can exist for data or charging only, and in that case the dock can connect but external displays will not work through it.

For a setup with the laptop screen plus 2 external monitors:

1. Confirm one external monitor works first.
   • If even one monitor does not work through the dock, the USB-C port may not support video output.
2. Do not use a display splitter.
   • A splitter duplicates the same signal and cannot create two independent extended displays.
3. Check whether the laptop supports more than one external monitor.
   • If one external monitor works but the second does not, the display adapter may not support more than one monitor.
4. If the dock is connected through USB-C, make sure:
   • the PC, monitor, and cable support DisplayPort or HDMI alternate modes
   • the dock or dongle is connected directly to the PC
   • the USB-C port used on the laptop supports the correct Alternate Mode
   • there are not too many other USB-C devices connected
5. Prefer direct cable connections when possible.
   • For multi-monitor setups, direct connections are best. Docks are possible but can be riskier, and converter cables should be avoided if possible.
6. If the setup worked before and stopped working, try Windows display troubleshooting:
   • Press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver.
   • Restart the PC from Start > Power > Restart.
   • If the issue started after an update, open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver if that option is available.

A similar HP docking scenario in Microsoft Q&A identified the root cause as the laptop USB-C port being data-only, not video-capable. If that is the case on this HP Pentium Gold laptop, the CODi dock can connect for USB functions but will not drive external monitors through that USB-C port.

I was using this with a company HP PC and the same HP docking station but there may be some hardware update I need to get this to work for me on my personal PC.
