i cannot re-enter credentials

It claims I cannot re-enter credentials because of a 'illegal state change' and this is interfering with my school.

Hi!

Where exactly are you trying to enter the credentials? In which app, and what kind of credentials are they?

Please provide more details.

I go to my settings to my Account Settings and it says I need to verify my identity. I click it and it shows the microsoft pop up where I have to sign in. I do that and it says I can't do a passkey so I click other options and enter my password since that's what I can do. After I do that it says it couldn't sign me in because of an illegal state change. I can't do anything and my one drive app keeps showing I have to reenter credentials, because it's stopped syncing.

This error usually occurs due to corrupted credentials or an account lockout resulting from a change in security information.

Before making any changes in Windows, check if you can log in using Sign-Helper.
