Message: AADSTS50020: User account '[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed] @outlook.co.nz' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'Auckland Transport' and cannot access the application '00000003-0000-0ff1-ce00-000000000000'(Office 365 SharePoint Online) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account.

    Dear @Andrei Hanlon,

    I hope you’re having a good day.

Thank you for providing the error details.

The error message indicates that the account you are using recognized as a personal Microsoft account (from live.com), but it does not exist in the "Auckland Transport" Microsoft Entra tenant and therefore does not have permission to access the SharePoint resource you are trying to open.

The key part of the error is the account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first.

As a first step, I recommend:

    1. Sign out of all Microsoft accounts.
    2. Open an InPrivate/Incognito browser window.
    3. Sign in using the exact account that was invited or granted access to the SharePoint site.
    4. Try opening the SharePoint link again.

If the issue persists, you will need to contact one of the following:

    • The person who sent you the SharePoint link.
    • The SharePoint Site Owner.
    • The Auckland Transport IT/Microsoft 365 Administrator.

    Ask them to verify that:

    • Your email address has been granted access to the site.
    • Your account has been added as a Guest user in the Auckland Transport tenant (if external access is intended).
    • The permissions on the site, library, or document are configured correctly.

I hope this helps clarify the cause of the error.

    Warm regards,
