Been using outlook to access gmail account for years. All of a sudden, it stopped. All of a sudden, I get a "You need to sign in" message, but when I click continue, I am taken to a screen saying, "You're signing back in to Microsoft apps & services". I then get a screen saying, "You're signing back in to Microsoft apps & services". I click continue and get a screen saying, "Microsoft apps & services wants access to your Google Account". I click continue and am taken back to the original "You need to sign in" message. How can I get Outlook to access the gmail account again?

You may have to confirm in your Google account that you want Outlook to get access to your account. See Google help at https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en .

    Hi James Sorensen,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue, and I understand how frustrating it can be when access to your Gmail account through Outlook suddenly stops working.

Based on the information provided, this may be related to a temporary service-side issue affecting connectivity or authentication between Outlook and Gmail. Microsoft is actively monitoring and working to resolve known service-related issues when they occur.

For now, I would recommend waiting up to 24 hours and then testing the account again, as temporary backend issues often resolve once service stabilization is completed.

In the meantime, you can monitor the current status of Microsoft cloud services here: https://status.cloud.microsoft/

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We appreciate your cooperation while the issue is being resolved.

This is a known Gmail sign-in issue in Outlook. The supported fix is to reset the Google consent and the saved Outlook Google IMAP credentials, then sign in again.

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. In a browser, sign in to the Google account.
    3. Open Manage your Google Account > Security.
    4. Go to Your connections to third-party apps & services > Microsoft apps & services > See Details.
    5. Select Remove all access, then confirm.
    6. In Windows, open Credential Manager.
    7. Select Windows Credentials.
    8. Under Generic credentials, remove entries that start with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 and include tp_google_imap_Oauth2. There are two credentials per Gmail account. Note: removing the wrong saved credentials can affect other signed-in accounts. If needed, the affected Gmail identity can be matched in this registry path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities
    9. Reopen Outlook.
    10. If the Gmail account is still in the profile, select the Sign in via browser prompt. If it was removed, go to File > Add account and add it again.
    11. During the Google browser sign-in, make sure the checkbox is selected for Microsoft apps & services to Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.

If using a fixed classic Outlook build, the error window may also show a Retry link that repeats the browser sign-in flow.

Also verify that IMAP is enabled in Gmail, because the same setup error can occur when IMAP is disabled for the Gmail account.
