Hello,

I have an Essential email subscription through GoDaddy. I recently noticed I am unable to log into Teams. I did a little research and learned I can move my email and get access to Teams. Please, how can I do that? Thanks.

To use Microsoft Teams with a GoDaddy email subscription, the key requirement is that the account must have a Microsoft Teams-supported business plan and the domain must be set up in Microsoft 365.

Supported business plans for Teams include:

    • Business Basic
    • Business Standard
    • Business Premium
    • Microsoft Teams Enterprise or Microsoft Teams Enterprise EEA

If the current GoDaddy email subscription is only an email plan, that does not provide Teams access by itself. In that case, the path is:

    1. Get a Microsoft 365 business subscription that includes Teams support.
    2. Verify or connect the business domain in Microsoft 365.
    3. If using Teams Essentials, sign up with the existing email address and assign licenses.
    4. If integrating the existing business email with Teams, complete the setup from a desktop computer and use an account with Global Admin permissions.
    5. Sign out of Teams and sign back in with the updated business email after the domain connection is completed.

If the business domain is hosted with GoDaddy, domain setup can be done in two ways:

    • Automatic verification through a supported registrar such as GoDaddy
    • Manual DNS verification and DNS record configuration

For Microsoft Teams DNS at GoDaddy, the two required CNAME records are:

    • sipsipdir.online.lync.com.
    • lyncdiscoverwebdir.online.lync.com.

Both values must end with a period (.), and the TTL is 1 Hour.

    Important details:

    • This setup must be completed on a desktop computer.
    • Global Admin permissions are required for the Microsoft 365 environment.
    • DNS changes usually take about 15 minutes, but can take longer to propagate.
    • If already signed in with the correct work account and Teams still is not available, the IT administrator might need to grant access or complete configuration.

If the goal is to move data into a Microsoft 365 business subscription, Microsoft provides guidance to move OneDrive, Outlook, and Teams data to Microsoft 365 Business Standard.

    Hi Onyeka,

Since your email service is managed through GoDaddy, the best course of action would be to contact GoDaddy Support directly and ask about your upgrade or migration options.

If you currently have a GoDaddy Email Essentials subscription, Teams is not included with that plan. GoDaddy Support can help you determine whether you can upgrade to a Microsoft 365 plan that includes Teams or migrate your email service to a suitable Microsoft 365 subscription.
