Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
To use Microsoft Teams with a GoDaddy email subscription, the key requirement is that the account must have a Microsoft Teams-supported business plan and the domain must be set up in Microsoft 365.
Supported business plans for Teams include:
- Business Basic
- Business Standard
- Business Premium
- Microsoft Teams Enterprise or Microsoft Teams Enterprise EEA
If the current GoDaddy email subscription is only an email plan, that does not provide Teams access by itself. In that case, the path is:
- Get a Microsoft 365 business subscription that includes Teams support.
- Verify or connect the business domain in Microsoft 365.
- If using Teams Essentials, sign up with the existing email address and assign licenses.
- If integrating the existing business email with Teams, complete the setup from a desktop computer and use an account with Global Admin permissions.
- Sign out of Teams and sign back in with the updated business email after the domain connection is completed.
If the business domain is hosted with GoDaddy, domain setup can be done in two ways:
- Automatic verification through a supported registrar such as GoDaddy
- Manual DNS verification and DNS record configuration
For Microsoft Teams DNS at GoDaddy, the two required CNAME records are:
-
sip→sipdir.online.lync.com. -
lyncdiscover→webdir.online.lync.com.
Both values must end with a period (.), and the TTL is 1 Hour.
Important details:
- This setup must be completed on a desktop computer.
- Global Admin permissions are required for the Microsoft 365 environment.
- DNS changes usually take about 15 minutes, but can take longer to propagate.
- If already signed in with the correct work account and Teams still is not available, the IT administrator might need to grant access or complete configuration.
If the goal is to move data into a Microsoft 365 business subscription, Microsoft provides guidance to move OneDrive, Outlook, and Teams data to Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
