    Hello

YOu need to download and install the scanner driver from HP in order for Windows to recognize the printer as a scanner.

    Go here: https://support.hp.com/ie-en/drivers/hp-deskjet-4200e-all-in-one-printer-series/model/2101374541

Expand the Driver-Universal Scan Driver section, download and install the driver from there.

If you ahve AMD/Intel CPU, use the 2nd one.

If you have ARM 64 architecture computer, such as a Snapdragon processor, use the first one.

Try this in order on Windows 11:

    1. Remove and re-add the printer/scanner.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the HP Deskjet 4255e and choose Remove.
      • Then select Add device next to Add a printer or scanner and follow the prompts.
      • This can re-register the scanner portion of an all-in-one device.
    2. If the device is connected by Bluetooth, make sure it is discoverable before adding it.
      • Turn on the printer/scanner and make it discoverable.
      • Then go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and use Add device.
    3. Install or update the latest printer driver.
      • If the printer is installed but scanning still does not work, install the latest driver for the printer.
      • Driver updates can be required for full printer and scanner functionality.
    4. Restart the Windows Image Acquisition service path if apps cannot find the scanner.
      • A known workaround for scanner detection issues is to stop and restart the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service.
      • Another supported workaround is to restart the PC while the scanner is connected.
    5. If printing works but scanning still does not, completely reinstall the device software.
      • After a Windows reset or similar issue, a full uninstall, restart, and reinstall of the manufacturer’s printer drivers and software is a recommended recovery step.
    6. If print jobs are also failing or the printer behaves inconsistently, reset the print spooler.
      • In the taskbar search box, type services and open Services.
      • Double-click Print Spooler.
      • Select Stop.
      • Open %WINDIR%\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete the files in that folder.
      • Go back to Services, open Print Spooler again, select Start, set Startup type to Automatic, and select OK.
      • Note: deleting spooler files clears queued print jobs.

If the scanner still is not detected after these steps, test whether it appears in another Windows scanning app or after reinstalling the full HP software package.
