    Hi,

As forum’s AI recommended, please first set the background effect to None, check that the camera lens or privacy shutter is not closed, and test the camera in your device’s built-in Camera app. These are appropriate first checks when Teams displays the selected background but not your image.

I would also suggest checking which camera Teams is using:

    1. Open Teams > Settings and more (…) > Settings > Devices.
    2. Under Camera, select the correct built-in or external camera.
    3. Check whether your image appears in the preview.

If the Camera app also does not show your image, the issue is likely outside Teams, so please check the device’s camera privacy controls or camera driver.

If the Camera app works but the Teams preview does not, close other applications that may be using the camera, fully quit and reopen Teams, restart the device, and check for Teams updates.

The other steps provided by forum’s AI can be used when applicable:

    • Check Lenovo Vantage only if this is a Lenovo device.
    • Check browser permissions only if you use Teams on the web.
    • Try Basic camera driver mode only if the camera is intermittently detected or repeatedly disconnects.

If the issue continues, could you confirm whether you use Windows, Mac, or a mobile device, and whether the built-in Camera app displays your image normally?

If the background shows but the face does not, Teams is often showing a background effect over a covered camera view or privacy screen.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Turn off background effects or blur in Teams.
      • Open the meeting pre-join screen or Teams video settings.
      • Set background effects to None.
      • Check whether the camera now shows a real image, a gray screen, a lock icon, or a covered view.
    2. Check whether the camera is physically blocked.
      • Look for a camera shutter or slider near the lens.
      • Make sure the lens is not covered.
      • Some laptops also have a camera privacy key on the keyboard.
    3. Test the camera outside Teams.
      • Open the Windows Camera app.
      • If the Camera app also shows a gray image, lock icon, or blocked view, the issue is outside Teams.
    4. If using a Lenovo laptop, check Lenovo Vantage.
      • Open Lenovo Vantage.
      • Find the camera/privacy settings.
      • Turn off camera privacy mode.
      • If supported, press F8 to toggle camera privacy mode.
    5. Make sure no other app is using the camera.
      • Close apps such as Skype or FaceTime.
      • If using an external camera, unplug and reconnect it.
      • Restart the device.
    6. Check Teams and browser/device access if needed.
      • In Teams desktop, confirm Windows camera permissions are enabled.
      • In Teams on the web, allow camera access in the browser site permissions.
    7. If the camera is intermittent or sometimes not detected:
      • Open Settings in Windows.
      • Go to the camera settings for the device.
      • Open Advanced camera options.
      • Enable Basic camera driver mode.
      • Restart Teams and test again.

If Teams on the web is being used, browser camera settings can also block video:

    • Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Camera > turn on Ask before accessing (recommended).
    • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Permissions > Camera > select the correct device and Sites can ask to use your camera.
