Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hello,
Check whether your phone is blocking text messages from unknown numbers.
Go to your mobile messaging settings and review the blocked senders list. If you have added Microsoft’s number to the list, remove it.
Sometimes, unusual activity on your account may prevent you from receiving a verification code on your phone number. To avoid this, stop requesting codes or repeatedly signing in. Wait 24–48 hours without signing in, then request the verification code again using your phone number.
Alternatively, try switching from your Wi-Fi network to a mobile hotspot, then request the verification code again. The block may be tied to the specific Wi-Fi network you are using.
If you are still having issues, try running the verification code troubleshooter from the link below.

Note -
For security reasons, Microsoft has removed the option for adding a phone number as a two-factor authentication method. It is recommended to use a recovery email address or an Authenticator app as a recovery method to verify your identity. To do that, you can sign in to the security settings page of your Microsoft account here.
- Click 'Add another way to sign in to your account'.
- Select 'email address' or "use an app".
- Follow the prompts to complete the setup.
- So, next time during sign-in, you can use any one of the above methods to confirm your identity instead of relying only on SMS verification.
