Activating MS apps

when i open MS document I get a notice that says, "This copy of Microsoft Office is not activated."

Are you using the Office apps on a Windows PC or on an Apple Mac computer?

If you are using the Office apps on a Windows device:

Open Word.

At the top right of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (not shut down) your PC, then log back into Office, is your licence/subscription then recognised correctly.

If not, log into your Microsoft account on this link, is your Office licence listed correctly there, or if that is a subscription, check the expiry date listed on your subscription, is that listed correctly?

If you are using the Office apps on an Apple Mac computer:

What version of Microsoft Office do you have, is that a subscription to Microsoft 365 or a standalone version of Office like Office 2019, 2021 or 2024.

At the top left of your Desktop, click the Apple icon and select 'About this Mac', what version of MacOS is installed on your computer?

That message means Office is in an unlicensed or deactivated state, so most features are disabled until activation is fixed.

Try these steps:

1. Sign in with the correct account Open a Microsoft 365 app and sign in with the Microsoft account, or work/school account, that was used to buy or subscribe to Office.
2. Check whether the license is on the account Go to Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account used for purchase. The Office product or Microsoft 365 subscription should be listed there. If it is not listed, that account will not activate Office.
3. If Office came preinstalled on a new PC A preinstalled copy may require starting a Microsoft 365 trial, buying Office, or activating the included purchase/offer. If there is no paid license, the web version can be used through Use free at Office.com.
4. Check for multiple Office installs on Windows Multiple installed versions can cause activation conflicts.
   • Open Control Panel
   • Select Programs > Programs and Features
   • Search for office
   • If more than one version appears, uninstall the version not being used
   • Restart the computer
   • Open Office and sign in again
5. Check subscription status If the subscription expired, Office can show activation errors such as not finding any Office products. Renewing the subscription restores use.
6. If activation still fails Use Microsoft guided support or the activation troubleshooting steps for Office.

If the notice specifically says Product deactivated, sign in again in the app. That usually happens when the install was signed out or deactivated on that device.
