This usually means the sign-in request reached Microsoft Authenticator, but the app is locked, notifications are disabled, the app is outdated, or the request did not refresh correctly.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Open Microsoft Authenticator directly
Do not wait only for the pop-up. Open the app manually and check whether there is a New sign-in request.
    2. Make sure the app is unlocked
If the app is locked, the number entry box might not appear. Unlock Authenticator first, then retry the sign-in.
    3. Retry the sign-in request
On the sign-in page, select Other ways to sign in if needed, then choose Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app or Send notification again.
    4. Check notification settings
In Authenticator, go to Settings > Notification Settings and make sure Show notifications is turned on.
    5. Update the app
Install the latest Microsoft Authenticator version from the device app store. Older versions can cause sign-in problems.
    6. Check connectivity and device settings
      • Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
      • Make sure Airplane mode is off.
      • If using VPN, disconnect it temporarily.
      • Confirm the device Date & time are correct.
    7. Restart the device
      Then try the sign-in again.
    8. Use another verification method if available
On the sign-in screen, look for Use a different verification option or I don’t have a code and choose another method such as text or voice call if it is already registered.

If the app does show the request, the normal flow is to tap or enter the number shown on the sign-in screen, then select Approve.

If none of the steps work:

    • For a work or school account, contact the IT admin or helpdesk.
    • For a personal account, send logs from Authenticator using Send feedback from the app menu, then contact Support.
