If PowerPoint crashed, the best recovery path on Windows is AutoRecover or Document Recovery:

1. Reopen PowerPoint.
   • After an unexpected shutdown, PowerPoint normally detects an AutoRecover file and opens the recovered presentation automatically.
   • If a recovered file appears, save it immediately before editing or closing it.
2. If nothing opens automatically, try the manual recovery path:
   • Go to File > Home.
   • Select Recover Unsaved Presentations at the bottom of the screen.
   • This opens the folder where AutoRecover files are stored.
3. Check whether AutoRecover is enabled for future crashes:
   • Go to File > Options > Save.
   • Make sure Save AutoRecover information every x minutes is selected.
   • Make sure Keep the last autorecovered version if I close without saving is selected.
4. Reduce the AutoRecover interval if needed:
   • In File > Options > Save, set the AutoRecover interval to a smaller value such as 5 or 10 minutes.
   • A shorter interval reduces how much work can be lost in a crash.
5. For better protection going forward:
   • Save files to OneDrive or SharePoint and use AutoSave.
   • AutoSave continuously saves changes for Microsoft 365 subscribers when files are stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.
   • If AutoSave is not available, save manually with Ctrl+S often.

Important:

• AutoRecover is not a substitute for regular saving.
• The recovered file may not include the most recent changes, depending on how often AutoRecover was set to save.
