Question

What is a "sidebar" and how is one opened? Capital One says I should use one for coupon savings while I shop in Edge.

For Capital One Shopping, first make sure the Capital One Shopping extension is installed. Then click the Extensions (puzzle piece) icon in Edge > find Capital One Shopping > click it. If the extension supports Edge’s sidebar, you may also see an Open in sidebar option when you right-click the extension.

Capital One Shopping does NOT require the sidebar for its normal coupon feature. Once the extension is installed, it can display offers while you shop and automatically test available promo codes during checkout. I am saying this because Microsoft is currently phasing out the older Edge sidebar app list.

In Microsoft Edge, the sidebar is a persistent pane on the side of the browser that stays alongside the main webpage. It lets apps, tools, and websites appear next to the page being viewed, so shopping or other tasks can be done side-by-side.

To open or show it in Edge:

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Go to edge://settings/sidebar.
3. Turn on Always show sidebar.

For shopping-related features in Edge, the Shopping sidebar can be opened from Settings and more (...) > Shopping.

If the goal is coupon savings while shopping, Edge can show shopping features in the sidebar, including coupons.
