If the account signs in on the iPad but the laptop is asking for verification and no code arrives, use this order:

    1. Check whether the code is being sent to the correct method.
      • Email codes are only sent to the primary alias or another email already added as a verification method.
      • On the account security page, select Update info to confirm the masked email or phone shown is correct: Sign in
    2. If the code should arrive by email:
      • Check Junk/Spam.
      • Look for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
      • Mark @accountprotection.microsoft.com as a trusted sender.
    3. If the code should arrive by SMS:
      • Make sure the phone does not block texts from unknown numbers.
      • If prompted, choose I don't have a code to request another one.
      • Check that the message inbox is not full.
      • If a VOIP number is registered, replace it with a mobile number because VOIP numbers cannot be used for sign-in or verification codes.
    4. Do not keep requesting codes repeatedly.
      • Excessive or repetitive requests can cause codes not to be sent.
      • Unusual activity or heavy compromised traffic from a location can also temporarily delay or block code delivery.
    5. If Microsoft Authenticator is involved:
      • Make sure the app is unlocked.
      • Turn on notifications for the app.
      • Update to the latest version.
      • Check internet connectivity and try switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
      • Make sure the device date and time are correct.
    6. If access to some security info has been lost but the password is still known:
      • Go to Advanced security options: Sign in
      • Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
      • Confirm the new method with the code sent to it.
      • Remove the old method that is no longer accessible.
      • Do not change all security info at once, because the account may be restricted for 30 days.
    7. If none of the codes arrive and sign-in still fails:
