A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If this is a work or school account, there are two supported paths:
- Try updating the method yourself at My Sign Ins | Security info: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Sign in with the account.
- Select the old Phone number method and change it, or add a new sign-in method.
- Verify the new number.
- If sign-in is blocked because verification is still going to the old number, contact the organization’s IT admin.
- An admin can go to Microsoft Entra admin center > Entra ID > Users > select the user > Authentication methods.
- The admin can add or change the phone number there.
- If needed, another admin can reset the MFA contact methods so the account is prompted to register them again at next sign-in.
If this is a personal Microsoft account:
- Go to the Microsoft account Security page: https://account.microsoft.com/security
- Select Manage how I sign in.
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
- Add a new method such as a recovery email, Microsoft Authenticator, passkey, or phone option if available.
If the old phone number is the only method available during sign-in, select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to recover the account and add new security info.
For personal accounts, the option to add a new phone number may not be available, because SMS is being phased out for some Microsoft accounts.
