Hello! I'm here to ask about my problem on my Acer Aspire Vero 5, windows 11. I've downloaded the boot system on a USB to repair my laptop, but when on the set up, it would not let me repair my computer. It only made it shut down and pop up the set up system again. I've also tried the commands, but some of them were access denied or I/O error. I also cannot find my user by looking into the notepad. Overall here's all I found trying to fix my laptop:

Hi John,

Error 0xc0000185 ("STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR") means "The I/O device reported an I/O error." The disk is inaccessible or the BCD is corrupt.

Plrease boot into Windows RE and run Startup Repair and post the results here. Reference: Startup Repair | Microsoft Support

Also, in Windows RE Command Prompt, run the following commands:

bcdedit

diskpart

list disk

select disk 0

list part

list vol

exit

Please take photos of the output screen on your phone and share them here. After seeing the output, will post the remaining commands.

Please tell me how to. I don't have much time in my hands to figure it out and will need some guidance in this position. Do I need to run DiskPart on a different laptop? Or will it run on my laptop?

Important: You need to run DiskPart on your laptop (i.e., in the affected computer).

Warning: Diskpart Erase/Clean will permanently erase/destroy all data on the selected drive.

From Windows RE Command Prompt, run these commands to wipe Disk 0, which is where Windows is installed.

diskpart select disk 0 clean exit

Post the output.

How will I do that? Is it explained in both links? Is my laptop still going to be usable? All I want is for my laptop to be usable again, I don't mind losing the data (I use it for gaming purposes).

If you don't mind losing the data, then you can wipe the disk/delete all partitions using diskpart. Then do a clean installation using the USB setup disk.

If you encounter any I/O errors during setup or DiskPart operations, the HDD/SSD needs to be replaced.

The OS partition has become RAW. That means its file system is not recognizable by the system and this may be due to too many bad sectors/physical damage.

The only option I can think of is to connect the disk to another system and try to recover the data using EaseUS or Disk Genius. However, recovery of data is not 100% guaranteed.

In WinRE Command Prompt, run:

notepad C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt
