Question

Publisher is ending in October 2026. Is there any to way to keep my word and excel files in one of the newer options? If there is will my Publisher subscription runs in to next year so will I be credited for that time?

Your existing Word and Excel files will not be affected by Publisher’s retirement. If Word and Excel are included in your Microsoft 365 plan, you can continue using them normally.

For Publisher files, Microsoft recommends converting them before October 1, 2026:

• Save them as PDF if you only need to view, print, or share them.
• If they need to remain editable, save them as PDF and then open the PDF in Word. Please note that complex layouts may not convert perfectly.
• For future publications, Word or PowerPoint can handle many tasks previously done in Publisher, such as newsletters, brochures, labels, cards, and flyers.

Regarding a credit or refund, Microsoft has not announced an automatic prorated credit specifically for Publisher’s retirement. If your subscription extends beyond October 2026, your Microsoft 365 subscription and its other included services will continue. Refund eligibility would depend on how and where the subscription was purchased and the applicable cancellation terms.
