Not getting verification codes in authenticator for a second account

I have a second account and am locked out. When I try to log in, it won’t let me use my password but says to enter a code from Authenticator, but I can’t get a code if I’m not logged in. How do I get access to my emails?

If the sign-in is asking for Microsoft Authenticator for the second account and that app is no longer available for that account, use another verification method that is already on the account.

    1. On the sign-in screen, choose another method if it is offered.
    2. If email or phone is available, use that instead of Authenticator.
    3. If the account says I don’t have any of these, select it to replace the security info.

If the verification code is being sent to another Microsoft email account such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com, use two private browsing windows so both accounts stay signed in at the same time:

    1. In a private/InPrivate window, sign in to the account that is asking for the code.
    2. Leave that window open when it prompts for the code.
    3. Open a second private/InPrivate window.
    4. Sign in to the alternate email account that receives the code.
    5. Copy the code from that message and enter it in the first window.

    If no codes are arriving:

    • Check Junk/Spam for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
    • Do not make repeated code requests, because that can temporarily block code delivery.
    • If the phone blocks texts from unknown numbers, change that setting and request a new code.
    • VOIP numbers cannot be used for sign-in verification codes; a mobile number is required.
    • If the account was flagged for unusual activity or locked for security reasons, verification messages might not go through until the issue is resolved.

If access is restored, add another sign-in method so the account is not dependent on one app:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Security page.
    2. Select Manage how I sign in.
    3. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.

Microsoft support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details for this scenario. If sign-in still fails, use the Sign-in helper or Contact Support options listed in the Microsoft support guidance.
