Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
If the message showed a strike and ended up in Deleted Items, that does not confirm it was successfully sent.
What can be checked:
- Open Sent Items and look for the reply there. Outlook stores sent messages in Sent Items.
- Check Outbox. If the message did not send successfully, it can remain there, especially if there was a connection or sign-in problem.
- Check Deleted Items. A message can be moved there and still be recoverable.
- In Outlook.com, if the message is not in Deleted Items, use Recover items deleted from this folder to see whether it can be restored.
- If the message is in Sent Items but the recipient says nothing arrived, ask the recipient to check whether it was filtered, moved, or deleted on their side.
Important: moving the conversation from Deleted Items to Sent Items after the fact does not prove the message was sent. It only changes where the conversation is stored now.
A sent message can still fail delivery. If a message is undeliverable, Outlook.com can return a delivery failed notice. If no failure notice was received and the message is in Sent Items, the next check is usually on the recipient side.
