You don’t need to import your existing spreadsheet into your new Microsoft 365 subscription. Open Excel, select "File" > "Open" > "Browse", then choose your spreadsheet.

If the spreadsheet is already on the PC, it does not need to be imported into the subscription. Install and activate Microsoft 365, then open the existing Excel file in Excel.

1. Install Microsoft 365 apps and sign in with the Microsoft account tied to the new subscription.
2. Open Excel.
3. Go to File > Open.
4. Browse to where the spreadsheet is stored, such as This PC, Documents, or OneDrive.
5. Select the existing .xlsx file and open it.

If the file is on an old computer, copy it to the new PC first using a flash drive or external drive. If the file was stored in OneDrive, sign in to OneDrive on the new PC and open it from there.

If the workbook still will not open, check these items:

• Make sure Excel is signed in with the Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 subscription.
• In Excel, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
• Confirm the file is in a supported .xlsx format.
