Hello Microsoft Team, After yesterday, I started getting those favorites that won’t go away. Even after reinstalling Windows and Microsoft Edge, nothing works. they keep multiplying. It started with one, now I have three of them. Sometimes it also creates copies of my original favorites that I use every day.

    Hi,

It sounds like the sync data on the server may be corrupted. Reinstalling Windows or Microsoft Edge may not resolve the issue if the problem is with the server-side sync data. In this case, you can try resetting the sync data on the server to see if it resolves the issue.

First, delete the Favorites that keep reappearing. Once they are deleted, go to Settings > Profiles > Sync > Reset sync data from Microsoft servers, then click Reset sync.

Before doing this, keep in mind that resetting the sync data can also affect your Workspaces and may even cause them to be deleted. Let me know if you need help backing up the Favorites within the Workspaces before you proceed with the reset.

Also, just to clarify, this is a community forum made up of users, not an official Microsoft support team. We can offer suggestions and troubleshooting steps, but we don't have access to Microsoft's internal systems or support tools.

This usually points to corrupted favorites data or a sync conflict, especially since the duplicates returned even after reinstalling Windows and Edge.

    Recommended recovery path:

    1. Back up current favorites first
      • In Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + O to open Favorites manager.
      • Select the three dots menu and choose Export favorites.
    2. Check whether sync is involved
      • In Edge, go to Settings > Profiles > Sync.
      • If sync is enabled, reset sync data and make sure Edge is signed out on other devices before turning sync back on. This helps prevent duplicate favorites from being reintroduced.
      • Favorites created during InPrivate sessions can still sync across signed-in versions of Edge.
    3. Manage favorites locally
      • In Edge, select Settings and more > Favorites.
      • In the left tree, open the affected folder and remove the duplicate entries.
    4. If the duplicates keep returning, rebuild the local bookmarks file
      • Warning: this can remove the current local favorites set if no backup exists.
      • Close Edge completely.
      • Go to the profile folder: C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default
      • Rename the Bookmarks file to Bookmarks.old.
      • Start Edge again so it creates a fresh bookmarks file.
      • Import the clean backup from Favorites manager.
    5. If needed, repair Edge
      • In Windows, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.

Because the screenshot shows the duplicates under Workspaces, one known workaround for Workspace favorites issues is to disable the flag that shows Workspace favorites directly on the favorites bar:

    • Open edge://flags/#edge-workspaces-favorites-bar
    • Disable Show Workspace Favorites in Favorites Bar
    • Restart Edge

If the issue is specifically tied to Workspaces behavior, send feedback from Edge through ... > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
