Microsoft project management software used to plan, manage, and communicate a project schedule and other information among workgroup members, project managers, and other stakeholders.
Hi Duarte,
Progress lines in Microsoft Project are measured against a reference date, such as the Status Date or Current Date, to indicate whether work is tracking as planned.
- A progress line that bends to the left generally indicates the task is lagging behind schedule.
- A progress line that bends to the right indicates the task is ahead of schedule.
- When a task is progressing according to the planned timeline, the progress line typically remains straight.
Based on this behavior, tasks completed earlier than planned should generate a right-facing deviation, whereas delayed tasks should generate a left-facing deviation. If the progress line is only showing peaks to the left for delayed tasks, please check the following:
- Ensure a Status Date has been set for the project.
- Verify that task progress is being updated correctly using fields such as % Complete, Actual Start, and Actual Finish.
- Confirm that the tasks you expect to appear ahead of schedule have progress that extends beyond the Status Date.
- Review the Progress Lines settings and ensure the line is configured to display against the project Status Date.
To better understand your scenario, could you please provide the following information?
- Which version of Microsoft Project are you using (Project Online Desktop Client, Project 2021, Project 2019, etc.)?
- Are you using a Status Date or comparing against the current date?
- How are you updating task progress (for example, % Complete, Actual Work, Actual Duration, etc.)?
If possible, please also share a screenshot of the Gantt Chart along with your Progress Line settings. This will help to investigate the issue more accurately.
