    Try these checks in order:

    1. Open Authenticator manually and refresh For some sign-ins, the prompt may not appear as a push banner. Open Microsoft Authenticator directly, then pull down to refresh or tap Refresh and check whether the approval request appears.
    2. Check whether the notification went to an old phone If Authenticator was previously active on another device, the push may be sent there instead of the current phone. If the old phone is still available, open Authenticator on that device and approve the sign-in. Then remove the old device from the account security settings.
    3. Verify phone and app settings
      • Make sure push notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator in the device settings.
      • Make sure Do Not Disturb or Quiet mode is off.
      • In Authenticator, go to Settings > Notification Settings and confirm Show notifications is turned on.
      • Make sure the app is unlocked when prompted.
    4. Check connectivity and device state
      • Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
      • Make sure Airplane mode is off.
      • If using a VPN, disconnect it temporarily and test again.
      • Confirm the device Date & time are correct and preferably set automatically.
    5. Update the app and device Use the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator. Versions older than 12 months are not supported. Also make sure the device OS and related security apps are up to date.
    6. If notifications still do not arrive
      • If another verification method is offered, use it temporarily, such as SMS or a verification code.
      • If notifications work for some accounts in Authenticator but not one specific account, remove that account from the app and add it again, allowing notifications.
    7. If the sign-in says authentication did not complete Check for these common causes:
      • Authenticator is locked
      • Notifications are silent or disabled
      • The app is outdated
      • The phone has no internet connection
      • The device time is incorrect
    8. If this is a work or school account and nothing works Send logs from Authenticator using Send feedback, then contact the IT admin.
    9. If this is a personal account and nothing works Send logs from Authenticator using Send feedback, then contact Support.

    Special cases from Microsoft documentation:

    • For anomalous sign-ins, a push notification may not be generated. Open Authenticator manually and refresh to approve the request.
    • On Android in China, notification through mobile app does not work because Google Play services push notifications are blocked. Use another authentication method.
