When I send an invite to a family member to share in my MS 365 and they select Join they get a message that says “Sorry, something went wrong”. I tried everything but can’t figure out what to do!

    Hi,

If sending the invitation by email is not working, you can use the Copy Link option instead and share the invitation through SMS, a messaging app, or social media.

Tell to try accepting the invitation in an InPrivate/Incognito window. Also, make sure that they are not currently signed in to another Microsoft account on their computer to avoid any conflicts.

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
    3. Under your Microsoft 365 Family subscription, select Start Sharing.
    4. Choose Copy Link.
    5. Send the link to the person you want to invite using your preferred messaging or social media app.
    6. Ask the recipient to open the link and accept the invitation.

Please note that the invitation link is valid for 48 hours only. If it is not accepted within that time, it will expire and you will need to generate a new invitation link.

    Try this end-to-end checklist:

    1. Check whether the invite is still valid The invitation must be accepted within 48 hours. If it is older than that, send a new one.
    2. Make sure the family member is not already in another family group If they are already in another Microsoft family group, joining will fail and can show errors during the join process. They must leave that other family group first, then accept the invitation again.
    3. Have the invitee open the invitation in a different browser or a private/incognito window This can help if the join page is failing because of a browser session or sign-in issue.
    4. Use a sharing link instead of relying on the email invite Go to the Microsoft 365 sharing page, select Share or Start sharing, then choose Create link / Copy link and send that link directly. The invitee should open the link, sign in with their Microsoft account, and then select Join now.
    5. Confirm the correct Microsoft account is being used The person accepting the invite should sign in with the Microsoft account that the invitation was intended for.
    6. If the invitation email was not received properly Check that the preferred email address was used and have them check the junk mail folder for a message with Microsoft 365 in the subject.
    7. After they join, verify the status on the subscription dashboard While the invitation is waiting to be accepted, the dashboard shows Pending invite. After they successfully select Join now and join the family group, the shared subscription benefits should become available.

    Important details:

    • Only the subscription account holder can share the subscription.
    • Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, and Pro can be shared with up to five other people.
    • Sharing only works while the invitee remains in the subscription owner’s family group.
