A Microsoft offering that enables tracking of cloud usage and expenditures for Azure and other cloud providers.
Check the failed transaction in Azure, have the bank authorize the charge, and then replace the payment method rather than repeatedly submitting the same declined payment.
1. Identify and clear the card restriction
- In the Azure portal, open Cost Management + Billing.
- Select the relevant Billing profile, then Payments and review Failed transaction history for each payment order.
- Contact the card issuer and ask whether it declined the Microsoft/Azure transaction. Confirm:
- International transactions are enabled.
- Sufficient funds or credit are available.
- Recurring payments are enabled.
- The card is active and not otherwise blocked.
These are the principal checks specified for an Azure payment that cannot be completed.^1^
2. Check whether the card is supported
If this is an India billing account:
- Use a Visa or Mastercard credit/debit card.
- American Express is not supported as an Azure payment instrument in India.
- Virtual and prepaid cards are not supported for Azure subscriptions.
- The cardholder name, address, and CVV must match the issuer’s records exactly.^2^
Indian customers may need to enter card information for each payment because of Reserve Bank of India requirements. When adding a new payment method, complete the one-time-password prompt.^3^
3. Replace the payment method
For a Microsoft Customer Agreement billing account:
- Go to Cost Management + Billing.
- Select Billing profiles and open the applicable profile.
- Select Payment methods.
- Under Default payment method, select Replace.
- Choose another saved card or select Add payment method.
- Make it the default, complete any OTP prompt, and submit each outstanding payment again.
For a pay-as-you-go Microsoft Online Subscription Program account:
- Go to Cost Management + Billing.
- Select the affected subscription.
- Select Payment methods → Add payment method.
- Enter a different supported card and select Make this my default payment method.
You must be the account administrator for pay-as-you-go subscriptions or have the appropriate Microsoft Customer Agreement billing permissions.^3^
4. Escalate if both orders still fail
Open Azure portal → Help + support → Create a support request, select Billing, and include:
- Both order or invoice numbers
- Amount and timestamp of each failure
- The exact error message
- Card type and issuing bank, but not the full card number or CVV
- Confirmation that the bank permits the transaction
- A screenshot of the failure with sensitive details removed
Azure provides unlimited support for subscription-management issues, including billing, without requiring a technical support plan.^4^
