A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Microsoft Authenticator is not available for PC or Mac. It is designed for smartphones for security reasons.
If the goal is to use Authenticator for sign-in, install it on an iOS or Android device, add the account, and then approve sign-in requests there. Verification codes can be used without internet access, but sign-in notifications require the mobile device to be connected to the internet.
If the goal is to sign in on a remote computer while setting up a work or school account, Authenticator supports Sign in from another device:
- Open Authenticator on the mobile device.
- Select Add work or school account > Sign in.
- Select Sign in from another device.
- On the remote screen, open the Sign in to your account page and enter the code shown in Authenticator.
- Sign in with work or school account credentials on the remote screen.
- Return to Authenticator to complete setup.
