Exchange 2019 Cluster node is in Quarantine Status

My Exchange 2019 Cluster node for one of my two Mailbox Servers is in a Quarantine State and the DAG node is offline. The Node that is showing Quarantine status holds the passive copy of the Mailbox databases.
How do I get the node out of Quarantine State?

Can I simply use the "Get-ClusterGroup “Cluster Group” | Move-ClusterGroup –Node" powershell command to bring the DAG back online?

Please advise.

thank you,

Hi CatherineJaszewski-5685,

Yes, quarantined nodes are just that; their roles are drained to other nodes in the cluster and they are not allowed to rejoin the cluster for two hours. The idea is to stop failing nodes from bouncing up and down (so called flapping), joining and leaving the cluster over and over again causing performance issues.

To force the node to normal state, on quarantine node open Windows powershell to execute cmd

Start-ClusterNode - ClearQuarantine

Have you tried:

 Start-ClusterNode -name <Quarantined Server> –ClearQuarantine

Hi Andy,

Sorry there was such a delay in updating you on this issue. With Cluster-Node diagnostics coming up clean, both cluster nodes up, DAG up ....I went ahead and restarted the server. This resolved the issue.
thank you for your help on this. And once again, sorry for the delay in updating you.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for responding. I did try "Start-ClusterNode -Name "Quarantined Server" -ClearQuarantine" command.
Still in Quarantine state...

The DAG is back on line and I am thinking we have to wait the 2 hour reset for the node to come out of quarantine.

And the when I do a Get-ClusterNode both nodes are coming up in a up state..

I am also seeing Dismounted journal databases active on the Quarantined Server. So I need to mount those, let the sync process happen, get it active on the healthy node and then dismount. I think this may be part of the problem too.

I will keep you updated. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

I appreciate your input (as always!)

Yea, you may need to wait it out :(
So, my honest suggestion is to add at least another server to the DAG in the primary site so you always have redundancy even if one node is offline :)
