How to Filter workook

When users filter columns in the workbook, the filters are being applied globally and update everyone's view of the file. Previously, users would get the option to create or use a personal view (e.g. "View for me" / Sheet View), allowing them to filter data without affecting other users. That option no longer appears. We have already tried creating separate views for each user, but even when everyone is working in different views, applying a filter still changes the view for all users in the workbook.

    Hello @Antonina ,

Good day! I hope you are doing well.

To help provide the most accurate and effective solution for your issue, could you share a bit more detail about your setup:

    • Is the workbook stored in SharePoint Online or OneDrive? Sheet Views are designed to work with co-authored workbooks stored in these locations.
    • Are the affected users working in Excel for Windows , Excel for the web, or a combination of both?
    • Does the issue occur in all shared workbooks or only with this specific workbook?
    • When users apply filters, do they see that they are actively working in a named Sheet View (under View > Sheet View) before making changes? Filters applied in the default view can affect all collaborators.
    • Is the workbook protected, using compatibility mode, or connected to any special features that might affect co-authoring functionality?
    • If you create another workbook, does the issue still occur there?

This additional context will help us understand your environment and the troubleshooting steps already taken so we can tailor the guidance effectively.

In the meantime, according to Microsoft documentation, when a user creates or selects a Sheet View, any sorting or filtering changes should remain isolated to that view and should not affect other users. If filters are still changing for everyone despite different Sheet Views being selected, this may indicate that users are being returned to the Default view or that the workbook/client configuration is preventing Sheet Views from functioning as expected.

Looking forward to your response so we can get this sorted out for you together.
