Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Hi Flavia Zoica,
Unfortunately, New Outlook does not automatically reopen email windows that were already open in Classic Outlook when it launches. The two applications use different interfaces and session management, so any emails that were opened in separate windows in Classic Outlook will not automatically transfer to New Outlook.
Since your main concern is that you can no longer open Classic Outlook, the priority is to restore access to the Classic Outlook app:
Option 1: Open Classic Outlook directly
- Close New Outlook completely.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter: outlook.exe
- Press Enter.
Option 2: Switch back from New Outlook
- Open New Outlook.
- Select the New Outlook toggle in the top-right corner.
- Turn the toggle Off.
- Confirm it switch back to Classic Outlook.
Option 3: Launch Classic Outlook from the Start Menu
On some systems, both versions are installed separately:
- Open Start
- Search for Outlook (classic)
- Select Outlook (classic) if it appears in the search results
Once Classic Outlook opens successfully, any emails that were previously left open may be accessible from Outlook's recent activity, although Outlook does not automatically restore all previously opened email windows after switching between Classic and New Outlook.
If you are unable to access Classic Outlook at all, please let me know:
- Your Outlook version (Microsoft 365, Outlook 2021, etc.)
- Whether you switched to New Outlook manually or it opened automatically
- Any error message you receive when attempting to open Classic Outlook
Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this. I will be glad to help. I'm looking forward to your reply.
