    Good day Jay,

To help me better understand the situation and assist you effectively, could you please share a few details such as:

1/ Does the same issue occur in other video calling apps such as Zoom or Google Meet?

2/ Have you experienced this issue before, or did it start recently?

3/ Does it happen in every Teams meeting or only in meetings organized by external participants?

4/ Are you using the Teams desktop app or Teams on the web?

This will help me better understand the context and provide more targeted support. Any additional information will help me better understand and support you.

In the meantime, please make sure your operating system, Teams, and Outlook are fully updated, then try the options below:

Option 1: Test Teams on the web

Open the same meeting link in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, or create a new Teams meeting and join it yourself from the browser.

    Allow camera access when prompted.

Verify that the correct camera is selected.

Join the meeting and check whether your video displays normally.

If the camera works in the browser, the issue is related to the Teams desktop app.

Option 2: Check the camera selected in Teams

Open Teams and go to Settings and more (three dots icon) > Devices.

Confirm that the correct camera is selected under Video.

Check whether your image appears correctly in the preview window.

Run Make a test call and verify whether the camera works during the test.

This helps determine whether the issue affects Teams overall or only certain meetings.

Option 3: Close other applications using the camera

Leave the meeting and completely close Teams.

Close any apps or browser tabs that use the camera, such as Zoom, Webex, Skype, or the Camera app.

If you use an external webcam, unplug it and reconnect it.

    Reopen Teams and test again.

Option 4: Check camera privacy settings

Make sure any physical camera shutter is open.

Check whether your keyboard has a camera privacy key and ensure it is turned off.

If your device includes a camera management utility, open it and disable any camera privacy feature.

A blocked camera feed can result in a gray video screen.

Option 5: Verify camera permissions in Windows

    Open Windows Settings.

Go to Privacy & Security > Camera.

    Turn on Camera access.

Turn on Let apps access your camera.

Confirm that Teams is allowed to use the camera.

    Restart Teams and test again.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Try these checks in order:

    1. Turn off background effects or blur in Teams.
      • Open the meeting pre-join screen or Teams video settings.
      • Turn off Blur and any background effect.
      • If Teams is only showing a background or a dark/gray area, this can reveal whether the camera is actually blocked.
    2. Check whether the camera is physically blocked.
      • Look for a shutter or slider near the camera lens and make sure it is open.
      • Some laptops also have a keyboard shortcut that turns camera privacy mode on or off.
    3. Test the camera outside Teams.
      • Open the built-in Windows Camera app.
      • If the Camera app also shows a gray image, lock icon, privacy screen, or no real image, the issue is outside Teams.
    4. If using a Lenovo laptop, check Lenovo Vantage.
      • Open Lenovo Vantage.
      • Find the camera or privacy settings.
      • Turn off camera privacy mode.
      • If supported, try the camera privacy shortcut key, often F8.
    5. Make sure Teams is using the real camera.
      • In Teams video settings, check which camera is selected.
      • If a virtual camera is selected, switch to the built-in or connected physical camera.
      • Turn video off and back on, or restart Teams, then test again.
    6. If the camera is intermittent or not detected in Windows, try Basic camera driver mode.
      • Open Settings in Windows.
      • Go to the camera settings for the device.
      • Open Advanced camera options.
      • Enable Basic camera driver mode.
      • Restart Teams and test again.

If the Windows Camera app also fails, the problem is with the device camera privacy mode or camera driver behavior rather than the meeting itself.
