Corrupted Windows Security 10pro

I have Windows 10 pro due to proprietary program licenses and need to keep my OS. Recently I was hacked and my Windows security was disabled to such an extent that when i try to start it it closes immediately. I have run all the tools I can find but it seems corrupted. How can I repair it without touching my programs that cannot be reloaded in a new OS?

FYI, in the event log it does not even notice something wrong with windows security or Windows defender.

Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) from the following link:

    Download Farbar Service Scanner

    User's image

With all checkboxes selected, click Scan.

It outputs a log file named FSS.txt. Upload that file in your next reply.

    Welcome Chamberlin, Scott Nathan,

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

I understand that keeping your existing Windows 10 installation and installed programs is important in this case. Since Windows Security closes immediately, let's first check whether its underlying Windows system files can be repaired without reinstalling your programs.

Since Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, this product is now EOS, but you can still try these workaround steps.

    First, could you confirm:

    • Is this your personal PC, rather than a device managed by a company or organization?
    • When Windows Security closes, does it disappear immediately without displaying any error message?
    • Have you already run DISM and SFC? If so, what final result did each command report?

If you have not already tried them:

    • Search for“Command Prompt”, right-click it, and select“Run as administrator”.
    • Run:DISM.exe/Online/Cleanup-image/Restorehealth
    • Wait until it completes successfully, then run:sfc/scannow
    • Allow the scan to reach 100%, restart the computer, and test Windows Security again.

Microsoft specifically recommends running DISM before SFC when repairing damaged Windows components and protected system files. These tools are designed to repair Windows files rather than remove your installed applications. Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.

    Looking forward to your update.
