After an overnight Windows update, my text is suddenly tiny in unexpected places (for example, the menu at the top of this browser is about half the size it was before the update). I know this is related to an update, and I know it can somehow be fixed in my computer settings because the same thing happened to my work computer about a year ago. It took me hours of research and trying different things to finally figure out how to fix it... but now I can't remember. It was something that your average person would never even think of... some setting that I didn't even know existed in my computer settings. And, I turned it off, then turned it back on (or vice versa) and it worked. I know it was not related to actually resizing the font or any of the accessibility options because I tried all those on my own before devoting a day to fixing this. I just don't have a day to spare this time.
Does anyone know this secret setting to fiddle with to trick my computer into going back to normal?
Hello,
Go to (Settings > System > Display), you will find it there.
Hello,
If you go to Settings > System > Display and then check the display scale size, what percentage do you get? Make sure that the scaling percentage has the text "(Recommended)" next to it and adjust it to see if that's the issue.
Let me know how this goes.
Hi Luara,
I can understand why you don’t want to spend another day hunting for that setting. From what you described, the setting you remember may be Display scale, which is separate from the text-size and accessibility options you already tried.
Open Settings > System > Display, then look under Scale & layout. Note the current Scale value, change it temporarily to another option and then change it back to the one marked Recommended. While you’re there, check that Display resolution is also set to Recommended. Afterward, sign out of Windows and sign back in so the settings can refresh fully.
If you have more than one monitor, select each display at the top of the page and check its scale individually.
Is the text also tiny in places such as File Explorer and Settings, or is it limited to the browser menus? It would also help to know the current Scale and Display resolution values and whether you’re using an external monitor. Those details should help narrow down whether this is a Windows-wide scaling issue or something limited to the browser.
