Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 subscription, then change the payment method from Services & subscriptions → Manage → Change how you pay, rather than updating the card only under general payment options.

Update the card linked to Microsoft 365

    1. Open Services & subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase Microsoft 365.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 and select Manage.
    3. Select Change how you pay.
    4. Choose Add a new way to pay, enter the new card details, and save it.
    5. Select the new card for the subscription. Microsoft documents this subscription-level process for recurring-billing subscriptions.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options | Microsoft Support")

If only the expiration date or CVV changed and the card number stayed the same, you can instead open Payment options, select View or edit card, update the details, and select Save.

If the subscription is past due

On Services & subscriptions, select Pay now beside the affected subscription. Add or select the new card, select Next, and complete the outstanding payment. Gift cards and Microsoft account balances cannot pay a past-due subscription.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Pay for a past-due Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")

If the new card is rejected

    Check these items:

    • The name and billing address must match the card provider’s records.
    • Enter the postal code exactly; if rejected, Microsoft suggests trying it with and without spaces.
    • Ask the bank whether it is blocking the transaction or requiring an identity/security check.
    • Ensure the card has sufficient available credit.
    • Not every payment method is supported in every region.^3^

If the payment controls are missing

    • No “Change how you pay”: Recurring billing may be off. A prepaid subscription also does not allow its payment method to be changed; you update your payment information and buy a new subscription when the prepaid term expires.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options | Microsoft Support")
    • Purchased through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or another retailer: Update the payment method through that provider. Microsoft cannot modify third-party billing.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Where can I manage my Microsoft 365 subscription? | Microsoft Support")
    • Still rejected after these checks: Contact Microsoft Support, enter Microsoft 365 payment/billing issue, choose Get Help, and then Contact Support. Billing support must inspect account-specific payment restrictions.^5^

Do not post card numbers, CVV codes, or other payment details in this public forum.

Hi, try updating the card through your Microsoft 365 subscription:

Sign in with the account that owns your subscription: https://account.microsoft.com/services

Find Microsoft 365 >> Manage >> Change how you pay >> Add a new way to pay.

Enter your replacement card details, then select it as the payment method for your subscription. If the subscription shows a past-due payment, select Pay now to update the payment details there.
