Error 0xC004F213 means Windows did not find a product key on the device. After a clean install from external media, this commonly happens if the digital license is not being matched, the installed edition does not match the license, or there was a significant hardware change.
Try this in order:
- Confirm the installed edition is Windows 11 Pro
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
- If the installed edition does not match the license edition, activation can fail.
- A mismatched edition can also cause 0xC004F212 or 0xC004F00F.
- Run the Activation troubleshooter
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
- Select Troubleshoot.
- If the troubleshooter detects a valid digital license linked for the device, it can guide reactivation.
- Re-enter the Windows 11 Pro product key
- In Start > Settings > System > Activation, select Change product key.
- Enter the 25-character Windows 11 Pro key.
- This is the correct path when Windows reports no product key was found.
- If hardware was changed, use the reactivation path
- A license is associated with device hardware.
- If there was a major hardware change such as a motherboard replacement, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot.
- If available, select the link to reactivate after a hardware change.
- This requires the same Microsoft account to have been used before the hardware change.
- If the key still fails, verify the key matches the edition
- Error 0xC004F034 means an invalid product key was entered or the key is for a different Windows version.
- A Windows Enterprise key will not activate Windows 11 Home or Pro, and a key for the wrong edition will also fail.
- If the PC originally came with Windows preinstalled
- If Windows was preinstalled and the device was repaired or rebuilt, reinstalling the original version of Windows may be required.
- If the motherboard was replaced on a preinstalled system, a new license may be needed.
- If activation still does not complete
- If the product key was already used on another device or on more devices than allowed, activation can fail with related errors such as 0xC004C008.
- If Windows was previously activated and there was no significant hardware change, the Activation troubleshooter is the next supported step.
The screenshot also shows 0xC004F034, which specifically indicates the entered key is invalid or for a different Windows version or edition. In this case, the most likely checks are:
- confirm the installation is Windows 11 Pro,
- run Activation > Troubleshoot,
- then enter a Windows 11 Pro key again through Change product key.
