Is SQL Server 2025 Standard Developer Edition Licensed for Automated Restore Testing?

Hello everyone,

We are planning to set up a dedicated SQL Server instance exclusively for automated backup restore testing.

Our production SQL Server databases are backed up regularly. Using dbatools, these production backups will be automatically restored to a dedicated test server to verify that the backups can successfully be restored.

The restored databases will not be used by applications or end users for any production workload. The server is exclusively used to validate our backups and restored databases, and the restored databases will be deleted after validation.

Would this scenario qualify as non-production/test use under the SQL Server 2025 Developer Edition Standard license terms, or would a commercially licensed SQL Server Standard Edition be required?

Additionally, does performing DBCC CHECKDB against the temporarily restored database change the licensing classification of this scenario?

Thank you very much
Chris
