Hi all. SharePoint 2019 eDiscovery used to index file shares only. Is there a way to enable/disable de-duplication for content on file shares? I see the option present for Exchange but nothing for file shares. If we have a share that has 20 copies of the same file scattered in multiple folders we may have situations where we only want to return only one copy of it in the exports/reports rather than all 20. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks.

To enable/disable de-duplication for content on file shares, please refer to following articles:

Install and enable Data Deduplication by using server manager or powershell:

Thank you Julie. So based on this information the data deduplication must be done at the file share level before the content is indexed rather than within SharePoint eDiscovery query results? There is no way to apply deduplication to the indexed content within SharePoint itself? Regards.

Yes,there is no such way to apply deduplication to the indexed content within SharePoint itself.
