I represent a company that needs to have another account made admin of Microsoft 365 - the global admin is unavailable due to medical reasons.

The company i represent has 2 owners, both with full rights to represent the company - how can i proceed to move up my account as admin to the company's account ?

Hi @Razvan Panes ,

I hope you're doing well.

I understand that the current Global Administrator is unavailable due to medical reasons. However, if there is any possibility of contacting them and they are still able to perform administrative tasks, I would recommend pursuing that route first. Having the existing Global Administrator assign the required admin role is typically the simplest and fastest solution, as only a Global Administrator can directly grant Global Administrator permissions to another account.

If the Global Administrator's condition prevents them from assisting in any capacity, then you will need to contact Microsoft Support and explain the situation. The appropriate team can guide you through the tenant recovery and ownership verification process.

1. Find the related hotline number for your country to call the frontline and let them raise a ticket for you: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

2. Depending on your country or region:

For some countries, when calling the support number, although there are about 30 seconds opening as something "you can visit the link...." But you can ignore this opening and wait until the option, then "1" as a business email user, "1" again for technical help.

For some countries, it will be an automated conversation like:

  • First, when you call the hotline, it asks what kind of problem you are worried about.
  • Answered: authenticator/admin access.
  • A: What kind of product are you using?
  • B: Microsoft 365 for business.
  • A confirmation: education or company account?
  • B: For companies
  • A: Are you an administrator?
  • B: Yes.
  • A: Do you have the other admin in your organization?
  • B: No.
  • A: You need one.... Service request?
  • B: Yes

Important note:

  • You may need to call multiple times before you are connected to a live support representative and can successfully create a support request with a ticket number for tracking.
  • If calling the support line in your region is difficult, you may try another regional support number that offers service in your language, or contact the English support line if you’re comfortable speaking English.
  • If your subscription is from a partner or reseller, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

Be prepared to provide documentation proving ownership of the Microsoft 365 subscription and your authority to represent the company. Since you mentioned there are two company owners with full legal authority, any supporting business registration documents, proof of subscription ownership, or other relevant records may be requested during the verification process.

Once Microsoft has validated ownership and authorization, they can advise on the available options for restoring administrative access to the tenant.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to leave a comment if you need any further assistance.

Kind Regards.
