Cannot RDP to Azure VM

I have tried going through the troubleshooting steps but still cannot RDP. The following can be confirmed:

  • Windows Firewall is disabled on both ends
  • I can RDP to other external resources outside of Azure so my machine is fine
  • I can connect to the VM in Azure using Bastion and it is showing online with no issues (can ping 8.8.8.8 and browse internet)
  • I have redeployed the VM
  • I have deployed a new VM and that has the same issue, so presuming the issue is at VNET level
  • I have allowed 3389 from any source inbound to the VNET on the relevant NSG
  • I have disassociated the Public IP from the VM and created a new one, and associated that one

I am now stumped. Any further recommendations would be appreciated.

Just updating this - it turns out that as I have a route to push all traffic through a Virtual Appliance, and even though that appliance is working and traffic is allowed, it stops RDP inbound to the public IP of the VM's (which is weird as surely it should only affect outbound traffic?) but I have found the issue and will continue to work on it.
