A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Open Microsoft Authenticator, select the old account, tap the Settings gear, and choose Remove account.^1^
Removing it means that phone can no longer verify sign-ins for the account. Before removal, ensure another verification method is available.
If “Remove account” is missing
If the entry is a work or school account:
- Open your phone’s system Settings.
- Go to Accounts, Passwords & accounts, or Accounts and backup.
- Select the old work or school account and remove it.
- Restart the phone and check Authenticator again.
If it belongs to an Android Work Profile, the organization’s Work Profile might also need to be removed.^2^
If you mean an email verification method
To remove an email address used for security verification—not an account displayed in Authenticator—open your Microsoft account’s Security info page, select Delete beside Email, and confirm Yes.^3^
Do not clear Authenticator’s app data or reinstall it unless necessary; that removes all accounts from the app and cannot be undone.^1^
