Open the Microsoft account dashboard in a private browser window and explicitly sign in with your personal account, because an existing work or school account session can cause the browser to use the wrong identity automatically.
Try a clean personal-account sign-in
- Open a private window:
- Microsoft Edge or Chrome on Windows:
Ctrl + Shift + N
- Firefox on Windows:
Ctrl + Shift + P
- Safari on Mac:
Shift + Command + N
- In that private window, open the personal Microsoft account page you were trying to access.
- If prompted to choose an account type, select Personal account, not Work or school account.
- Enter the email address and password for the personal account.
- If this succeeds, the original browser profile was likely reusing another signed-in account. Microsoft documents that browser profiles can automatically use an existing Microsoft 365 identity; private mode or separate browser profiles lets you use a different account.^1^
- Close the private window when finished.^2^
If you regularly use both personal and work/school accounts, create separate browser profiles for them to prevent future account switching.
If the same message appears in the private window
Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper. Enter the email address or phone number associated with the personal account; the tool checks for account-specific problems and provides the applicable recovery steps.^3^
If the helper cannot resolve it, select the customer-support option on that page. Do not use work/school password reset unless the address is actually managed by an employer or school.
When contacting support, provide:
- The exact message: “You cannot access this page at the moment. Please use another account.”
- Confirmation that it also occurs in a private window
- Whether the email address is also associated with an employer, school, Azure tenant, or Microsoft 365 organization
- A screenshot with the email address and other personal information hidden
Microsoft Support cannot directly change account details or send password-reset links, but it can route the issue to the appropriate account-access support path.^4^
